We are giving away a $50.00 U.S. Savings Bond!
How many times have you heard it, on the news, in the paper, maybe even experienced it for yourself.  ACCOUNT FRAUD is one of the latest growing crimes in the nation.  P&C EFCU has safeguards to help prevent and detect account fraud, but it is YOUR knowledge, awareness and alertness that are the first and most important first lines of defense.

There are many forms of account fraud.  There's checking account fraud, credit card fraud, ATM fraud, Identity Theft (see our last newsletter), and electronic account fraud.

The first defense in preventing account fraud is through careful and diligent safeguarding of your account information.
Do not treat your account information casually or provide it to unknown parties, especially to solicitations received by the phone or internet.  PROTECT your account and information, treat it like gold.  ONLINE transactions should only be done on secure Web pages (https:) and identified by a little lock (that is locked) displayed in the lower right corner of your browser.  DO NOT send credit/debit card information in an email, they are not secure.  REPORT any lost or stolen credit/debit cards to the issuing institution immediately.  SHRED any documents containing your account or personal information, including unused checks, ATM receipts and store receipts.  DEPOSIT outgoing mail directly into post office boxes, NOT in your own mailbox. Believe or not, people steal mail from mailboxes.  If you are going on vacation, have the post office hold your mail until you get back.

Always be sure to contact us or affected financial institutions immediately as soon as you learn you have been a victim of account fraud.  In most cases this will limit or eliminate the amount for which you might be liable on your loss.  For additional information about fraud, you can contact the
National Check Fraud Center at www.ckfraud.org or (843) 571-2143, or the United States Government website on Identity Theft at www.consumer.gov/idtheft.
